BenQ-Siemens Snake Phone

Snake Phone Concept of BenQ Siemens.
BenQ Siemens conception phone, known as “Snake”, can be worn as rings or necklaces, preferably in warm weather. Notice the existence of media playback buttons, the usual answer/refuse call keys and even a tiny display, perhaps for showing the time and missed calls. The figure of the device is very motivating, although the handset seems rather fragile and from what can be seen, its speakers are on the inside section.

After loosing so much money in Europe, they finally brought up this cool new cellular phone design, that, amazingly, looks like a snake and can be rapped around your wrist .We don’t know exactly how this phone will be operated or how will you be able to communicate using this device because I don’t see any physical or virtual keyboard.Actually all I see is the “answer” and “reject call” buttons and the “play” and “pause” buttons, probably used in media-player applications. And at the back of the phone IBenQ Siemens Concept Phone, which is known as "Snake", can be worn as bracelets or necklaces, preferably in hot weather.

Note the presence of the media playback buttons, the usual answer or reject call keys, and even a small screen, perhaps to present time and missed calls. The shape of the device is very interesting, even if the handset seems quite delicate, and what can be seen, its speakers are on the inside section

Having a cell phone that can wrap around your wrist or armrest can be useful, specially if you are prone to losing things. But this does not mean someone wants the product created by Visionaries mobile snake wrapped around his arms. Imagine unwrapping one of those things, if you receive a call. Yikes! Reducing design to a manageable size, and this phone would probably be a great success with people who frequent the gym.

Samsung the Ultra Smart F700

Samsung have announced a new accumulation to their Ultra collection of mobile phones, with the Ultra Smart F700. The phone, which they're calling 'revolutionary' (doesn't every manufacturer?), will be showcased at next week's 3GSM World Congress, so we're sure to hear more about it, and get our mitts on it then.

The phone facial appearance a full touch screen user interface on its 2.78 inch colour display (440x240 pixel resolution), has a slide-out full QWERTY keypad, and VibeTonz technology that provides tactile feedback to the user.
They've utilised a 'drag and drop' interface allowing easier menu navigation, music play list control, and other functions. Is this sounding like the iPhone to you? Touch screens certainly seem to be the 'in thing' right now; I wonder how many more manufacturers will beat Apple to it...
Anyway, back to the Samsung. The Ultra Smart F700 features HSDPA giving a maximum records transfer speed of 7.2Mbps. This means a 4MB song could be downloaded in around 4 seconds.
The phone has a full HTML web browser, a whopping 5-megapixel camera with auto focus, Bluetooth, WAP, Java, and USB. It features microSD expansion, and measures up at 104 x 50 x 16.4mm.

Pomegranate phone NS08...!

W hen was the last time your iPhone made you coffee? And no, I don't mean "pointed you toward the nearest Starbucks"—I mean actually brewed a cuppa joe.
Introducing the Pomegrante Phone, the first smartphone to offer e-mail, Internet browsing, an MP3 player, and GPS navigation in addition to such atypical "extras" as a harmonica, an electric shaver, and a coffee brewer.
What? Is this for real? Well, no. But it is a pretty clever, albeit expensive, viral ad campaign.
The L.A. Times explains:
The Pomegranate Phone is part of a $300,000 ad campaign put together by Nova Scotia. Yes, that Nova Scotia, the small province in southeastern Canada.
Indeed, clicking the "release date" link in the upper right-hand corner of the Pomegranate Phone's microsite reveals the truth:
"Someday you'll be able to get everything you want in one device," reads the text that appears on-screen as you're redirected to Nova Scotia's tourism site. "Today you can get everything you want in one place.

"MOTOROLA AURA"

The Return of Artistry
AURA™ by Motorola is a timeless, classically designed device that delivers a sensory experience that is second-to-none for those with refined taste. From the moment an AURA owner picks up his or her device they embark on a journey of discovery.

An Exquisitely Performing Device, Designed to the Highest Standards

Drawing on inspiration, materials and techniques from luxury jewelers, AURA begins with the world's first 16 million color, circular display with more colors and sharper resolution than has ever been seen on a Motorola phone. "The Diamond Crypto Smartphone"

"The Diamond Crypto Smartphone"

Price: $1.3 Million
The Diamond Crypto Smartphone
Designed by diamond encruster extraordinaire Peter Aloisson The Diamond Crypto Smartphone is sometimes quoted as the World’s most expensive cell phone (depending on exchange rates). Russian firm JSC Ancort has developed a Windows CE-based smartphone ready for Aloisson’s bejeweling that employs “powerful encryption technology” to “provide secure protection of information against kidnapping, technological blackmail, financial racketeers and corrupted state officials” — sounds like marketing speak for a password-protected wallet app. Of course, with its $1.3 million price tag and 50 diamonds (10 of which are blue) you might start to have more trouble with mugging than with technological blackmail...

"Top 10 Most Expensive Mobile Phones in the World"

"Top 10 Most Expensive Mobile Phones in the World"

Until recently, the vast majority of mobile phones had been priced between £100 and £300 with only Vertu, a division of Nokia, manufacturing uber-premium phones. With prices starting at around £4,000 Vertu phones are only for the filthy rich and the super famous.
However, Vertu’s monopoly of the luxury phone market is coming to an end with the launch of several new luxury mobile makers including Gresso, Mobiado and GoldVish. A load of other mobile phone manufacturers are also working up partnerships with luxury brands get a piece of the action. We’re beginning to see premium mobile phones emerge from couplings such as LG and Prada, D&G and Motorola, and now Tag Heuer and Modelabs. Finally, there are the ridiculous, super-expensive one-offs made purely for headline grabbing such as Goldvish’s “Le million”, worth a cool $1,000,000, see below for details!
1. Goldvish “Le million” = $1,000,000 (£540,540)
Goldvish
A PR stunt it may be and they surely can’t be expecting to sell any, but the Goldvish “Le million” is officially the most expensive mobile phone in the world, according the Guiness Books of Records. There has even been talk of a $1.3million phone, but this has fewer diamonds than the Goldvish so I can’t see where the extra expense comes from! The “Le million” is a one off piece featuring a blinding 120 carats worth of VVS-1 grade diamonds, according to designer Emmanuel Gueit. If $1 million is out of your price range the Geneva-based Goldvish also offer several other diamond-encrusted 18k gold models in your choice of rose, yellow or white starting at a much more reasonable $25,600 (£13,837). ;)

2. Vertu Signature Cobra = $310,000 (£167,567)
Vertu Cobra
Vertu is now taking orders for the Signature Cobra which is designed by French jeweler Boucheron, but you had better be quick as only 8 are being made. The Cobra will feature one pear-cut diamond, one round white diamond, two emerald eyes and 439 rubies. Vertu will also be offering a “cheaper” version, ruby free at $115,000 (£62,162).

3. Sony Ericsson Black Diamond = $300,000 (£162,162)
Sony Ericsson Black Diamond
Apparently the Black Diamond will be available in 2007, not from Sony Ericsson but by a company called VIPN. Initially only 5 unique numered pieces will be available for the unbelievable price of, wait for it… $300,000.
With regards to the specifications, don’t expect anything remarkable for your money. It will have Quad-band with Wi-Fi, an Intel 400Mhz processor running Windows Mobile 5 and a touch sensitive 2″ screen. It will also include internal memory of 128mb and will come with a 2Gb SD card for external storage plus a respectable 4 Megapixel camera.
The designer Jaren Goh has used some pretty impressive materials for the build, featuring titane with polycarbonate, mirror-finish cladding and diamonds.

4. Vertu Diamond = $88,000 (£47,567)
Vertu Diamond
The Diamond is Vertu’s premium range of high-end mobile phones. As the name suggests the handsets in the Diamond range are diamond-encrusted handsets made from platinum. Only 200 of the handsets are being produced, the most expensive believed to be worth an estimated £50,000.

5. Motorola V220 Special Edition = £28,000 ($51,800)
Motorola
Austrian designer Peter Aloisson has taken a standard Motorola, studded it with 1,200 diamonds and added a keyboard inlaid with 18 carat gold. The outcome is a £28,000 handset, suitable only for footballers and film stars!

6. Gold Edition Nokia 8800 Phone = $2,700 (£1,459)
Gold Nokia 8800 Mobile Phone
If you have $2,700 to spare, you can now buy the Nokia 8800 in 24K gold. However, be warned if you think you’ll be getting a better phone for your extra cash, you wont! The features found on the Gold Edition are the standard 8800 features which are pretty basic. It includes a 0.5 Mega pixel SVGA camera, 64 MB of internal memory, 64 voice polyphonic rigntones, FM Radio, Mp3 Player, video recording and 180 mins talktime. However, the Gold Edition does includes a special edition box and charging dock!

7. Mobiado Professional EM (wood) = $1,900 (£1,027)
Mobiado
The Mobiado Professional EM is a wood-clad upgrade of their earlier Nokia-based phone that includes a 1.3 megapixel camera, music player, FM radio, Bluetooth and according to Mobiado it’s the first production phone with Titanium buttons. Only 200 are being made and each one has its limited number engraved on the back. At $1,900 however, you’re still paying an awfully high premium for a fairly basic phone encased in wood!

8. Bang & Olufsen (Samsung) Serene = $1,250 (£675)
Bang and olufsen serene mobile phone
Bang & Olufsen hooked up with Samsung to design the sleek but unconventional Serene. It’s not a bad looking phone and even has a built-in motor to assist you in opening and closing the phone. It’s not very practical however, requiring a special screwdriver to access the battery and the SIM card and the circular keypad will take some getting used to. Also for some strange reason they have positioned the camera lens on the side of the device, which will make it difficult to align snapshots via the viewfinder on the display.

9. Lamborghini 8800 Sirocco from Nokia = $To be announced
Lamorghini 8800
The Lamborghini Nokia 8800 Sirocco is another special edition, like the previously launch Aston Martin branded Sirocco. It will ultimately be a standard 8800 Sirocco but with the addition of the famous Lamborghini logo engraved on the font and the back, plus ball bearings from the auto company to in the slider phone mechanism. The Lamborghini phone will be a limited edition with only 500 being made. It will also feature Lamborghini graphics as wallpapers, screensavers, ringtones and even has a short documentary video.

10. Gresso Luxury Phone = £expensive
Gresso
The Russia based Gresso, is a new entry into the luxury phone market. Their aptly name “Gresso Luxury Phone” is made of gold and African Blackwood. Apparently they will be releasing a collection of five models called the Black Aura collection, and the designer is a “well known” Italian designer. Currently there are two versions of the African Blackwood phone, one with pink gold highlights named the Gresso Blackwood Gold Edition and one made entirely of African Blackwood. In addition to the two African Blackwood phones Gresso also make a phone made entirely of pink gold named the Gresso Gold phone. Initially, the phones will be on sale only in Russia.

I-mate Ultimate 9502

The I-mate Ultimate 9502 is the larger sibling of the i-mate Ultimate 8502, and shares the honour of being Australia's first HSUPA phone. While this phone is in the same league as a BlackBerry or the iPhone, be wary of Telstra's promised internet speeds.

Design:
What is immediately striking about the i-mate 9502 is the bright 2.8-inch touchscreen that occupies most of the front panel. The generous 640x480 resolution means you can really enjoy multimedia content on this phone.
Unlike its smaller sibling, the i-mate Ultimate 8502, the QWERTY keyboard on the 9502 is hidden underneath a sliding screen. While it's quite small, raised keys means typing is acceptable. In a similar manner to the iPhone, the 9502 automatically detects which way the phone is oriented and tips the screen accordingly.

We had no problem using the small raised QWERTY keys on the 9502, but in truth we liked the touchscreen so much that we tended to use it more often. The inclusion of a stylus stops the screen getting covered in fingerprints, and in case you lose the stylus, the 9502 even comes with a spare. A handy button is placed at the bottom of the screen that provides a shortcut to the "soft" touchscreen keypad.

At 116x60x17.8mm the 9502 is just fractionally larger than its smaller sibling, the 8502. While this isn't a small phone, it's a compact for the range of features it offers — and much smaller than a monster like Nokia's E90 Communicator.
The 9502 offers a range of additional buttons, and we like the scroll wheel placed on the top left-hand corner along with the email and IE key shortcuts. One annoying feature is that the button placed on the left-hand side of the phone sits right next to the sliding screen, which opens in a spring-loaded fashion. This left us occasionally pushing the screen rather than the "OK" or "wireless" shortcut.
Given that we preferred the stylus and touchscreen to the QWERTY keyboard placed underneath the screen, it is our view that the 8502 is the better design of the two i-mate releases. However, bear in mind for an extra AU$100, you get twice the display resolution (640x480 rather than a 320x240), more battery life and a higher resolution camera in the larger 9502. This more than justifies the extra price in our view.
Features:
The i-mate 9502 Ultimate packs pretty much every feature we have ever seen in a smartphone — and a whole bunch more — including full HSDPA access. A word of caution here: with full HSDPA, Telstra will advertise this phone's network speed at a maximum of 7.2Mbps download and 1.9Mbps upload, but don't expect to get anywhere near these speeds.
ZDNet.com.au spoke to IDC telecommunications analyst Mark Novosel, who reported a maximum download speed of 2.2Mbps, and 0.35Mbps upload speed using HSDPA in the North Shore and Eastern suburbs of Sydney. He was using an identical i-mate 9502 to that received by ZDNet.com.au for review. In our experience with the phone, the speeds reported by Novosel are realistic or even optimistic.
However, given that the 9502 includes support for 802.11g/b Wi-Fi networks, you may be able to find a hotspot and avoid the whole 3.5G speed issue altogether. No doubt the built in Bluetooth will also come in handy.

Both the i-mates are also exclusive to Telstra, which is a major drawback in our view. We are not suggesting that Telstra is a bad carrier, but a lack of choice for consumers is never a good thing. Furthermore, customers on existing contracts will need to change carriers to get their hands on an i-mate 8502 or 9502.
Battery life on the 9502 is excellent — with moderate use including video calls — the i-mate 9502 battery lasted about three days. The battery life is also aided by the fact that the screen on the i-mate powers down after a short delay if it's not in use.
It's no surprise that the 9502 has excellent battery life, it includes the biggest battery pack we have ever seen — at 1,660mAh. Compare that to a 1,350mAh battery in the HTC Touch Dual, or 900mAh on the BlackBerry Pearl 8120, and you will see why it comes out on top. If you open up the back of the 9502, you will see the battery is huge.

The 9502 also packs a 3-megapixel shooter, which takes nice photos on the big screen. It also comes with a flash, and range of photo editing and camera features which have become a standard on smartphones.
The 9502 also comes with GPS, which is increasingly becoming the norm in smartphones — probably because it's a great feature.
As a phone maker, i-mate is an exclusive supplier of Windows Mobile phones — so if you don't like the OS, don't buy an i-mate. However as Joseph Hanlon from ZDNet.com.au's sister site CNET.com.au notes, you can skin your i-mate with an interface to make it more user friendly using a program like Sbp Mobile Shell 2.0.

We liked Windows Mobile 6 as a mobile OS on the 9502 — but there is no doubting that it's a slow platform. The i-mate 9502 packs a lot of processing power, with a 400MHz Qualcomm processor and 128MB of RAM, it's a lot faster than the desktops we remember using in the early 1990s. But once you start running several programs, the Windows Mobile interface starts chewing through your memory. The 9502 is also slow to boot up.
The i-mate 9502 is the first phone that we have ever seen with an RCA three-pin video output — meaning you use it as an alternative to a laptop when making presentations. While this is an exciting step in smartphones as it gets closer to being true UMPCs, we see this feature as too rudimentary to be useful.
The i-mate's limited processing and storage power could be a problem for presentations that contain large images or complicated features, such as video. Also bear in mind that the features offered on the Windows Mobile 6 addition of PowerPoint are much more limited than the desktop version.
One feature of the 9502 that i-mate spent considerable time promoting is security — the 9502 will ask you for a pin code every time you turn it on — a useful but hardly unique feature.

A
unique security feature to the i-mate is the inclusion of "Secure i-Q", which allows users to remotely lock their phones, or even set off an alarm using a Web interface. Phones locked using the secure Web interface have no way to be unlocked via the handset, and you can even remotely wipe all the data on the phone.
We have mixed opinions about Secure i-Q. While it provides a very powerful security feature — the Web interface also adds additional security vulnerabilities — if someone were to break into Sercure i-Q's website, they could remotely wipe every i-mate phone! Not to mention set off loud, permanent alarms. This vulnerability is compounded by the fact that the quick start option for setting up a Secure i-Q account only requires very weak security details. For example it might be possible to access the account of a new user with only their favourite movie and phone number.
i-mate offers the "Secure i-Q" Web interface for additional security. Just make sure you set up a more secure password than offered in the quick start interface.
The alarm, wipe and lock features also work internationally, so we wouldn't be surprised if someone eventually finds out how to hack i-mate's website and cause international i-mate phone chaos. In the meantime, we recommend you set up a strong password if using Secure i-Q.

Verdict:
There is no doubt the 9502 is an impressive phone, with a raft of features including full HSDPA, a big high resolution touchscreen, and Windows Mobile 6. This Ultimate 9502 is designed for business users — and we think i-mate has really hit the nail on the head for this target market.
However, be aware that Telstra's advertised data rates can be taken with a grain of salt, and it's important to set up a strong password when using Secure i-Q.
